Georgetown Chamber meets with Attorney General/Minister of Legal Affairs

A team of representatives from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) met with Mr. Mohabir Anil Nandall, Attorney General (AG) and Minister of Legal Affairs, SC, MP, today at the Attorney General’s Chambers.

The meeting sought to highlight the concerns of the GCCI and its membership, as well as solicit updates on pressing matters in the business community. The engagement kickstarted with discussions on issues in the banking sector and the need to introduce invoice factoring in Guyana.

The Attorney General noted that the government is seeking to revamp the local commercial sector which will be done through the updating and drafting of new legislation. He cited several Acts and Bills which are currently under review, being updated or newly introduced, while reassuring that the concerns of the private sector are being noted in those processes.

Further, the team and the Minister discussed other key issues such as local content, the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME), happenings in the oil and gas sector and insurance.

The GCCI representatives extended thanks to the Attorney General for facilitating the meeting to listen to their concerns and both parties agreed to meet in the future for continuous dialogue.

The GCCI’s team present at the meeting today comprised of President of the GCCI, Mr. Timothy Tucker; Executive Director, Mr. Richard Rambarran; Senior Vice President, Mr. Gerry Gouveia Jr.; Junior Vice President, Mr. Kester Hutson; and Councillors, Mr. Rayad Boyce; and Mr. Keon Howard.
