GCCI hosts closing ceremony for National Small Business Week “Teenternship” Programme

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Friday, October 6, 2023, held a closing ceremony and presented certificates of participation to the bright, young minds that took part in the National Small Business Week “Teenternship” Programme.
Some 18 students from secondary schools across Region Four took part in the one-week internship program that provided the teenagers with opportunities to shadow CEOs or General Managers in large and medium-sized businesses. The program aimed to offer the students practical learning experiences, enhance career awareness, and foster a deeper understanding of business operations.
The selection of students was done through the Ministry of Education with assistance from the Ministry and Tourism, Industry and Commerce, with the students being placed strategically at companies within the membership of the GCCI.
Businesses that came on board to partner with the GCCI to provide the internship opportunities included Omni Helicopters, Roraima Airways Limited, Windsor Estate, ActionINVEST Caribbean Inc, Envisage Marketing & Technology Company, PS Shipping and Customs Brokerage Inc., Cerulean Inc., KOJAC, Symmetry Brokerage & Logistics, GTT, MBW Energy Support Services Inc, and Guyana Payroll.
During the closing ceremony GCCI President, Mr. Kester Hutson, thanked the students for being part of the programme and expressed the GCCI’s gratitude to the businesses that came on board to be part of the initiative. GTT Business Solutions Chief Operating Officer, Mr Orson Ferguson delivered remarks on behalf of the corporate sponsor, while Head of the National Small Business Week, Dr. Rosh Khan also thanked the students for being part of the programme and wished them well in their future endeavours. Also present was Chairperson of the GCCI Entrepreneurship & Small Business Committee, Ms. Evie Gurchuran, and GCCI Membership Officer, Rene Daniels.
