Trinidad and Tobago Removes Restrictions on Export of Pineapples and Peppers from Guyana

By Sandi Bowen

Guyana will now be able to export pineapples and peppers to Trinidad and Tobago following the removal of restrictions on those products. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the announcement on Thursday via a press statement, noting that such restrictions were identified as possible trade barriers to the export of agricultural products by Guyana.

The Ministry said that earlier this week, the National Plant Protection Office (NPPO) of Trinidad and Tobago informed the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) of the amendments.

The notice follows a meeting of technical officials which was held in September at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land, and Fisheries of Trinidad and Tobago. Foreign Secretary, the Honourable Carl B. Greenidge, subsequently met with Trinidadian officials to discuss trade barriers between the two states.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has noted that it is pleased with the steps taken by Trinidad and Tobago and expressed its willingness to remain engaged in an effort to remove other restrictions on exports to the twin-island republic.
