GCCI takes part in inaugural Technology Conference

Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Treasurer, and Chairman of the Security and Governance Committee, Mr. Orson Ferguson, on Thursday, October 26, underscored that Guyanese businesses must understand the importance of digitisation and cybersecurity protection if they are to maintain competitive advantage and withstand challenges as the business community continues to expand.
Mr. Ferguson shared this position as he delivered remarks at the inaugural Technology Conference that was held at the Pegasus Corporate Suites and Corporate Centre. During his remarks, Mr. Ferguson emphasized that the GCCI sees data protection as an extremely important component in business development. GCCI President, Mr. Kester Hutson also attended the event.
Held under the theme โFortifying Industry 4.0โ the Technology Conference was held as part of the activities to commemorate Cyber Security Month, which is being celebrated in October. The event was organised by the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) in association with the GCCI and Private Sector Commission (PSC).
The feature address for the Conference was delivered by the Prime Minister, the Honourable Brigadier (retโd) Mark Phillips, who noted that the digital transformation brought on by โIndustry 4.0 should be accompanied by a solid commitment to cybersecurity.
The Prime Minister noted that the government understands the significance of ICTs in developing the economy and advancing international development, and therefore sees the implementation of robust cybersecurity measures as critical in maintaining operational integrity and ensuring safety and privacy of individuals and organisations.
