GCCI receives courtesy call from newly accredited Ambassador for the Republic of Zimbabwe
The Executive Management Committee (EMC) of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) met with H.E. Ignatius Graham Mudzimba, the recently accredited Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe, who paid a courtesy call to the Chamber this afternoon.
Mr. Mudzimba’s recent appointment comes on the cusp of the Government of Guyana and Zimbabwe seeking to bolster relations to achieve sustainable development goals such as eradicating poverty, ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture.
At this afternoon’s engagement, the EMC greeted the Ambassador with warm welcomes and thereafter initiated a dialogue on private sector development within both countries through working relations and partnership. Mr. Mudzimba noted that Zimbabwe has always been a “friend” of Guyana; however, there are now endless opportunities for both countries in light of his appointment.
He added that Zimbabwe is open for business within all sectors as his country strives to build a new economy. As he shared his prospects for both countries, he outlined his desire to see Guyanese companies going to Zimbabwe to explore investment opportunities and vice versa.
To that end, the President of the GCCI, Timothy Tucker, informed the Ambassador that over the years, the GCCI has led many trade missions and is open to the idea of continued exploration. He also shared the objectives of the Chamber’s various committees, emphasizing the Green Economy Committee, which has been very proactive in light of Guyana’s 2015 oil find and subsequent production in 2019, which has triggered a greater need for environmental advocacy. Mr. Tucker also voiced that the GCCI found it imperative to urge its membership and private sector businesses to adapt and promote green practices in the Guyanese business sector.
Mr. Mudzimba is Zimbabwe’s first Ambassador to be accredited since Guyana gained independence in 1970. The Chamber looks forward to future visits and dialogue, which will see the private sector aiding in strengthening relations between both countries.
