GCCI meets with new Ambassador of Japan
His Excellency, Kiman Umezawa, Ph.d., the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for the Embassy of Japan, accompanied by Second Secretary, Mr. Yasumitsu Takagi, on June 25 met with Senior Vice President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Mr. Gavin Ramsoondar shortly after submitting his letter of credence to the President of Guyana.
Senior Vice President, Mr. Ramsoondar apprised the non-resident Ambassador of the GCCI’s history, role, committees, and membership. Mr. Ramsoondar also shared an overview of the Chamber’s activities and areas for potential collaboration.
Among the topics discussed was a mutual desire for increased bilateral trade relations and ease of doing business between the two countries. The Japanese Ambassador, in addressing Guyana’s transformative economic growth, noted that there is heightened interest by members of the Japanese private sector in exploring opportunities for business in Guyana. He noted, too, that Japanese companies in the agriculture sector are utilising Artificial Intelligence to simplify and improve their operations, and there is room for collaboration in this regard.
The GCCI’s Senior Vice President also provided an overview of Guyana’s economic landscape and other potential areas for investment, particularly in the eco-tourism industry.
