-Industry leaders provide insight into opportunities in the oil and gas sector

The oil and gas industry continues to offer increasing opportunities for businesses to tap into the lucrative sector, and on September 26, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) brought industry leaders and local entrepreneurs into one room to discuss these prospects at its inaugural ‘Energy Luncheon’.

With insights on their companies’ operations, expansion plans and local content initiatives, Production Manager of ExxonMobil Guyana, Mr. Huzefa Ali; Country Manager of MODEC, Mr. Rafael Fumis; Deputy General Manager of Guyana Shore Base Incorporated, Mr. Rabin Chandarpal; Supply Chain Manager of Saipem Guyana Incorporated, Mr. Giancarlo Dagnino, and General Manager of SBM Offshore Guyana, Mr. Martin Cheong engaged scores of attendees on how their businesses can tap into the industry’s supply chain.

This event was organised by the Chamber’s Petroleum Committee. Senior Vice President and Chairperson of the Petroleum Committee, Mrs. Kathy Smith underscored the crucial role that the Chamber plays in fostering these important conversations for the benefit of local companies. She emphasised, “The discovery and development of significant oil reserves have opened up new avenues for economic growth and prosperity for our nation. This industry has the potential to significantly uplift the lives of our citizens, create new jobs, and enhance our overall development. However, we recognise that the successful navigation of this journey requires a multifaceted approach that balances economic growth with environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and the well-being for our communities.”

Meanwhile, President of the Chamber, Mr. Kester Hutson unveiled the cover of the GCCI’s Business Guyana Magazine 2024, which is themed, ‘Transforming Guyana’. He provided an overview of the publication, disclosing the focal areas which include E-Commerce, Digitalisation, Financing, Improving standards and quality, Compliance, and Marketing. He stressed the importance of this information for local businesses and the GCCI’s commitment to building a thriving business ecosystem that can withstand the test of time.
