GCCI & GPF to formulize MoA following courtesy call paid to newly appointed Police Commissioner (a.g)

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI)’s Executive Management Committee met with the newly appointed Commissioner of Police ag., Mr. Clifton Hicken, yesterday to explore areas of collaboration and strengthen their decades-long partnership.

The courtesy call was paid to Commissioner Hicken in his boardroom at the GPF Headquarters, Eve Leary Georgetown. The Chamber representatives were also able to meet the GPF Leadership Team’s senior members. The fruitful engagement led to talks on strategies for crime prevention, the GCCI aiding the GPF in improving service delivery to Guyanese, and a potential partnership to tackle gender-based violence, domestic violence, training and awareness, and traffic management.

The Chamber also expressed its willingness to partner with the GPF on its social crime prevention programme and reminded them that the GCCI has an open door policy as it relates to collaboration with the Force. Also highlighted was the need for effective public relations to counter negative perceptions and improve the image of the GPF. In light of the plans for collaboration, the Deputy Commissioner ‘ Administration’ (ag.) Mr. Calvin Brutus is expected to draft a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the GCCI and GPF, and it will be reviewed by both parties and ratified after its finalization.

During the meeting, Hicken also noted that partnership with all stakeholders, including the corporate sector, is essential in contemporary policing. He added that it is also critical in bridging the gap between the GPF and members of the public. Finally, Hicken commended the GCCI for its positive contributions and eagerness to support the GPF to achieve a safer Guyana.
