GCCI and T&T Energy Chamber sign MoU to strengthen collaboration

As the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) continues to advance its action plan to increase regional collaborations, partnerships, and increase opportunities for local businesses, the Chamber has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago.

Geared towards strengthening collaboration for mutual development, the MoU was signed on May 5 at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas by President of the GCCI, Mrs. Kathy Smith, and President of the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago, Ms. Priya Marajh.

The MoU is a vehicle for developing Guyana’s energy sector, the removal of trade barriers for Guyanese exports to Trinidad and Tobago, knowledge exchange, networking opportunities, and collaborative initiatives such as event-planning.

Reflecting on Trinidad and Tobago’s experience in the petroleum sector and Guyana’s position in the global energy industry, President Smith stated that this MoU’s objective is to develop the capacity of Guyanese businesses in the sector. “Trinidad has always been a senior country as it relates to the development of oil and gas,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Marajh underscored the potential opportunities that will arise for Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises through this agreement. “…what we’re going to learn, and what’s important for me with this MOU is the value added that it’s going to bring to some of our smaller members and some of the partnerships that they’re able to forge with members from GCCI.”

The signing of this MoU follows a visit to Trinidad in late 2025 by President Smith where she engaged the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago on matters of mutual interest.
