GCCI Engages Cancer Survivors Ahead of Cancer Awareness Month

GCCI Engages Cancer Survivors Ahead of Cancer Awareness Month

President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Kathy Smith, Junior Vice President Kristia Ramlagan, Councillor Mrs. Martina Johnson, and Chairperson of the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Committee, Christpen Bobb-Semple, joined cancer survivors for a meaningful engagement at the GCCI Boardroom on September 21, 2026.
The discussion also highlighted some of the often-overlooked needs of survivors, including the transition to healthier diets and the increased cost of suitable foods, as well as the financial demands associated with follow-up care and essential medical screenings such as CT scans.
As GCCI looks beyond Cancer Awareness Month, the Chamber hopes to explore practical and meaningful ways of supporting survivors with some of these needs.
This commitment will also be reflected at the GCCI Cancer Awareness Mixer in October, where survivors, members of the business community and other stakeholders will come together to continue the conversation around cancer awareness, survivorship and support.
