GCCI discusses investment opportunities with global asset management firm

Secretary of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Mrs. Kathy Smith, on Wednesday, February 21, met with executive representatives from global asset management firm Davidson Kempner Capital Management (DKCM), to discuss potential investment opportunities within Guyana.
Held at the GCCI Waterloo Office, the meeting was attended by DKCM Managing Director, Michael Chiaramonte and Vice President – Investment Research, Ms. Alejandra Kubitschek Bujones. Also present at the meeting was Dr. Rosh Khan, President of ACE Consulting Group, which facilitated the meeting.
DKCM sought to explore potential collaborations, talk about the Chamber’s role in the private sector environment and garner the private sector’s insights on the political, economic, and energy landscape of Guyana. DCKM hopes to use this information to serve as a crucial foundation for DKCM strategic investment decisions.
Mrs. Smith spoke to the senior officials about the lobbying work that the Chamber has done and continues to work on in a number of areas, including the oil and gas sector. She noted how the Chamber’s work has contributed to the influencing of legislation and government policies. Mrs. Smith also shared about the challenges that many businesses in Guyana face with financing, to fund expansion on par with the economic growth Guyana is currently experiencing. Speaking on developments on the horizon to improve the private sector, Mrs. Smith pointed to the upcoming Gas to Energy Project, which will drastically bring down energy cost, reducing overhead costs for many businesses, allowing for expansion of Guyana’s manufacturing sector and making Guyanese products more competitive in the global economy.
