GCCI meets with company conducting National Skills Audit
Executives of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Wednesday, February 7, met with Dr. Justine Pierre, Team Leader and Director at Dunn, Pierre Barnett, and Company Canada Ltd(DPBA), which has been contracted by the government to conduct a
National Skills Audit geared at assessing the current skills gap and future skills needs of the key sectors in the economy.
Present from the GCCI was President, Mr. Kester Hutson, Secretary, Mrs. Kathy Smith and Chairperson of the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Committee, Mrs Evie Gurcharran. The National Skills Audit is being done under the Strengthening Human Capital through Education Project in preparation for the upskilling and upgrading of the Labour Force.
The meeting with the GCCI is part of a series of meetings and surveys being conducted in person and electronically. With the GCCI constituting a membership of over 800 businesses in Guyana, Mr. Pierre noted that the GCCI input plays a crucial role in shaping the analysis.
During the meeting the GCCI members shared about some of the challenges currently facing the private sector with the persistent labour shortage across Guyana, and discussed the hosting of a webinar with the Chamberโs wider membership.
