GCCI pays courtesy call on His Excellency Mauricio Vizcaíno Crespo, Mexican Ambassador to Guyana
On April 26th, 2023, the Executive Management Committee (EMC) of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) met with His Excellency Mauricio Vizcaíno-Crespo, the Mexican Ambassador to Guyana. The meeting took place at the embassy’s headquarters on Brickdam and was held with the intention of fortifying the partnership between the two entities.
The President of GCCI, Mr. Kester Huston, was in attendance at the meeting, accompanied by Mr. Orson Ferguson; Treasurer, GCCI, Ms. Kathy Smith; Secretary, GCCI and Mr. Edison Jefford; Executive Director, GCCI.
During the meeting, the EMC and Ambassador Vizcaíno-Crespo engaged in productive discussions regarding potential collaborations and initiatives that could benefit both parties. The Ambassador shared that Mexico is commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations and emphasized the importance of Mexico’s connection with the Caribbean region; particularly with Guyana, in order to enhance bilateral trade. It is clear that Mexico recognizes the significance of strengthening ties with its neighboring countries in order to promote economic growth and prosperity.
The Ambassador also shared details about several upcoming events that the embassy has planned for the Caribbean. One of the most significant events is a trade fair that will heavily focus on food and agriculture; but is not limited to these industries. These events will provide an excellent opportunity for companies within the private sector who are seeking investment and partnerships to connect with potential partners.
Mr. Antonio Crus-Diaz, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy, emphasized the rapid evolution of Guyana and the influx of incoming trade missions. He raised a pertinent question regarding whether the private sector was prioritizing outbound missions. In response, the Chamber’s President, Mr. Kester Huston, acknowledged the importance of inbound trade missions but stressed the need for the private sector to take the lead in outbound trade missions.
It is crucial for the private sector to recognize the potential benefits of outbound trade missions. By proactively seeking out new markets and opportunities, businesses can expand their reach and increase their profitability. As Guyana continues to grow and develop, it is essential for companies to stay ahead of the curve and seize every opportunity to expand their operations.
The Ambassador enthusiastically encouraged increased visits to Mexico, highlighting the country’s growing expertise in agriculture, technology, tourism, and even oil. Mexico has made significant strides in these industries, and visitors can witness firsthand the innovative and sustainable practices being implemented.
The meeting came to a close with a mutual agreement to maintain an open dialogue and delve into potential collaboration opportunities. The GCCi and the Mexican Embassy both expressed a strong desire to work together toward mutual success.
Also present was Mr. Edwin Martinez-Gonzalez; Cooperation Attaché, Embassy of Mexico.
