In collaboration with other foreign partners, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) attended the Biodiversity Engagement Facilitation Consolidation Event organized by World Wildlife Fund Guianas (WWF-Guianas).
The event focused on the role of Guyana’s mining and agriculture sectors in promoting sustainable development. A focus of the discussions was the reduction of pollution associated with mercury and cyanide as well as the development of low-impact mining solutions and mercury alternatives with a goal of becoming mercury-free.
In the agriculture sector, attention was given to facilitating the production and/or importation of bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides, reducing air pollution and improving water management.
It was also disclosed at the event that Guyana is leading in Chemicals Management for the Region.
