GCCI represented at IDB Sub-Regional Policy Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation

President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Mr. Kester Hutson, last week represented the Chamber at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Sub-Regional Policy Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation which was held from October 18 – 19 in Kingston, Jamaica.
The 2023 Sub-Regional Policy Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation engaged Caribbean policy-makers, and private sector stakeholders in strategic discussions on how to foster and strengthen eco-systems that support dynamic entrepreneurship and innovation in the Caribbean region. The event exposed participants to initiatives that promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the region, facilitated discussions on the level of development of Caribbean eco-systems, and mapped ways to strengthen them. Private sector perspectives from inside and outside the Caribbean region were included in order to enrich the discussion and stimulate alignment of the discussions to the needs of entrepreneurs.
According to the Mr. Hutson, the event revealed a lot of lessons learnt from sister states that could be adopted and implemented in other countries, while presentations on extensive data gathering done in some sectors illustrated strategies that could be adopted to further expand on comprehensive data gathering in the region. Mr. Hutson called for collaboration, within the region, as a means of enabling companies to expand significantly through strategic partnerships. He also underscored that governments must seek to strengthen policy framework to ensure businesses thrive in a sustainable way.
