GCCI participates in discussion on improving trade relations with Brazil at NACEN meeting

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on May 15 participated in a meeting of the National Advisory Committee on External Negotiations (NACEN), which saw discussions on improving trade relations with Brazil. The GCCI was represented by Councillor and Trade and Investment Committee Chairperson, Mr. Eusi Evelyn.

Also present at the meeting were Councillor, Mr. Timothy Tucker, and Vice Chairperson of the Trade and Investment Committee, Mr. Theon Alleyne.

In 2001, Guyana and Brazil signed a partial scope agreement to increase trade flows between the two countries through tariff preferences and concessions, and at the time it was envisioned that this agreement would be expanded, however, this expansion has not yet materialised. The meeting saw stakeholders from a number of government agencies and the private sector discussing concerns related to current trade flows and how this can be improved, including through infrastructural development.
