GCCI meets with Traffic Chief to collaborate on road safety management
The Security and Governance Committee of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Thursday, February 8, hosted a meeting with Acting Traffic Chief, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh for the Chamberโs membership, where discussions were held on areas that the private sector can collaborate and contribute to improved road safety management.
Held at the GTT Boardroom of the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre, the meeting was led by Chairman of the GCCI Security and Governance Committee, Mr. Orson Ferguson, while also present from the GCCI were the President, Mr. Kester Hutson, Council member, Mr. Rayad Boyce, and Committee Member, Mr. Paul Archer.
During the meeting Traffic Chief Singh gave an informative presentation that included an analysis on accident statistics, social and economic impacts of road accidents, prevailing issues, concerns and traffic education taking place, he also outlined steps and strategies being taken by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Traffic Department to mitigate the situation.
Mr. Hutson noted that the private sector was keen to play its role in assisting with road safety management improvement. Mr. Singh noted that a key way that the Chamber can assist is by carrying out sensitization activities within the Chamberโs membership, while the Chamber can also join ranks whenever sensitization activities are held by the GPF.
