GCCI hosts presentation by Minister of Labour
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has been placing a keen focus on the development of local companies, particularly capacity-building, so that they can access opportunities in the country’s evolving economic landscape. Cognisant of the importance of human resources as a factor in the success of businesses, the Chamber on May 28 hosted a presentation by the Minister of Labour, Hon. Joseph Hamilton and a team of senior officials from his ministry.
This well-attended event was coordinated by the Human Resource Management and Capacity-Building Committee of the GCCI. President of the Chamber, Mrs. Kathy Smith in her opening remarks noted the importance of compliance for businesses operating in Guyana. As such, she said the GCCI is committed to ensuring that its membership is well-informed and meets the legal requirements as it relates to their workforce.
Meanwhile, the Minister provided an overview of the services that are provided by his Ministry, including advisory services, training, and technical skills development for employees. He urged members of the private sector to access these crucial services that are provided by the ministry free of cost.
Attendees were provided with the opportunity to interact with the officials from this ministry to ask questions and seek their support where necessary.
