On October 7, 2026, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) met with representatives from the Private Sector Commission’s Business Support Desk to engage with various business stakeholders in the Chamber’s boardroom. This interactive engagement provided Guyanese businesses with the opportunity to recognise ways of strengthening their operations, improving their readiness for financing, and positioning themselves for sustainable growth.
GCCI’s President, Mrs. Kathy Smith, led the engagement, joined by Senior Vice President Mr. Gavin Ramsoondar, and Councilors Mr. Delmar Walcott, Mrs. Mary Nagasar, and Mr. Rayad Boyce. Representing the Business Support Desk were Project Manager Jared Kisson and Project Assistant Luke Chung, who provided insight into the Desk’s role in supporting businesses.
Discussions were focused on the importance of making businesses bankable and investment-ready. The Business Support Desk, supported by the Inter- American Development Bank, assists businesses in addressing the areas that can affect their ability to access financing, including financial records, management structures, regulatory compliance, business planning, and overall operational readiness. The Support Desk also provides technical assistance, mentorship, training, and guidance, while helping businesses navigate regulatory requirements and connect with financial institutions, consultants, and other business support organisations.
The engagement underscored that accessing finance requires more than a good business idea. Businesses must have the systems, records, structure and compliance measures needed to demonstrate readiness for growth and investment.
GCCI also highlighted the value of collaborating with the Private Sector Commission and the Business Support Desk to ensure businesses can access the resources, knowledge, and opportunities they need for sustainability.
