GCCI and GNBS Strengthen Collaboration on Product Standards and Compliance
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on September 25, 2026, held a courtesy meeting with the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) to discuss product standards, compliance requirements and opportunities for greater collaboration in business education and sensitisation.
Representing the GCCI were President Kathy Smith and Senior Vice President Gavin Ramsoondar. The GNBS delegation comprised Al Donavon Fraser, Head of Business Development; Andrea Mendonca, Head of the Standardisation Department; and Quincy Troyer, Head of the Product Compliance Department.
Discussions focused particularly on standards applicable to imported electrical and gas-related products being stored and sold in Guyana, as well as matters relating to manufacturing, product compliance and consumer safety.
President Kathy Smith highlighted the importance of strengthening compliance at the manufacturer and supplier levels to help ensure that products entering the market meet the required standards before reaching consumers.
Senior Vice President Gavin Ramsoondar reaffirmed the GCCI’s willingness to support greater sensitisation among businesses and the wider public on product standards, compliance requirements and consumer safety through the Chamber’s communication platforms and training initiatives.
The two organisations also explored practical areas for collaboration, including opportunities for GNBS to engage directly with businesses through GCCI-led programmes. As part of this collaboration, GNBS will participate in the Chamber’s upcoming Small Business Week activities in October, providing small businesses with direct access to information on applicable standards, compliance requirements and their responsibilities as suppliers and manufacturers.
