The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) hosted the Honourable Zulfikar Mustapha, Minister of Agriculture, for an engagement focused on key developments, challenges and opportunities within Guyanaโ€™s agriculture sector.
Discussions addressed the anticipated dry weather conditions and measures being implemented to support farmers, drainage and irrigation, access to agricultural lands, poultry production, market access, export opportunities and support available to businesses seeking to invest in agriculture.
Minister Mustapha also highlighted opportunities for greater private sector participation in areas including poultry, aquaculture, apiculture, coconut production, hydroponics and other high-value agricultural activities.
The engagement provided members with an opportunity to raise sector-specific concerns directly with the Minister and his team, while exploring areas for greater collaboration between the private sector and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Representing the Chamber at the engagement were President Kathy Smith, Senior Vice President Gavin Ramsoondar, Secretary and Chairman of the Agriculture Committee Brian Edwards, Councillor Delmar Walcott, and Past President Timothy Tucker, along with GCCI members from across the business community.
