GCCI discusses closer collaboration and trade with Brazilian Chargé d’affaires

Brazil is keen on increasing bilateral trade with Guyana, and Brazilian companies are actively seeking to do business with their Guyanese counterparts. This was expressed by officials from the Embassy of Brazil in Guyana during a meeting with Executive Members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on May 28 at the Embassy.

President of the GCCI, Mrs. Kathy Smith; Junior Vice President, Mr. Brian Edwards, and Secretary, Mrs. Kristia Ramlagan-Prescott met with Chargé d’affaires for the Embassy of Brazil, Mr. Paulo Valença and Commercial Specialist in the Embassy’s Trade and Investments Section, Ms. Terrianna Selby.

Mrs. Smith provided an overview of the GCCI, its mandate and achievements, as well as potential areas for collaboration. Chargé d’affaires Valença also shared a number of areas in which Brazil is seeking closer ties with Guyana, particularly Disaster Management, Oil Spill Prevention and Management, Logistics, Climate Change, and the Energy sector.

In terms of bilateral trade and access to markets, the Embassy Officials proposed connecting the GCCI with its Brazilian counterparts to discuss collaboration.
