GCCI meets with USAID’s Regional Representative, Mr. Mervyn Farroe

 The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), met with Mr. Mervyn Farroe; Regional Representative, Eastern and Southern Caribbean, of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss various development programs and initiatives that USAID is currently implementing in the region.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Kester Hutson; President, GCCI, Ms. Kathy Smith; Secretary, GCCI and Mr. Edison Jefford, Executive Director, GCCI. As part of the meeting, the USAID Regional Representatives were given the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on various issues affecting the private sector in Guyana.

Some of the issues that were discussed included access to financing, regulatory reforms, competitiveness in the oil and gas sector, the digitization of the economy, workforce development and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

During the meeting, the USAID Regional Representative provided an overview of the agency’s ongoing programs and initiatives in Guyana, which aim to address some of these challenges.

Mr. Hutson expressed the willingness of the Chamber to collaborate with USAID in these and other programs to help foster an environment that is conducive to business growth and development in Guyana.

Also present at the meeting on behalf of USAID were: Mr. Durwin Humphrey; Project Management Specialist (Economic Growth & Local Works Development), Ms. Chloe Noble; General Development Specialist and Mr Steven Fondriest; General Development Office Director.
