GCCI attends stakeholder engagement session with lead consultant for the Single Window Planning and Development System, Mr. Fareed Amin

On April 17, 2023, the Executive Management Committee of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) attended a stakeholder engagement session at the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA). During the meeting, the lead consultant for the Single Window Planning and Development System, Mr. Fareed Amin, gave a presentation on initiatives to simplify, streamline and strengthen the planning and development approval process, as well as implementing a single window system in Guyana.

The presentation began by highlighting the importance of streamlining the planning and development approval process, which can be a time-consuming and costly exercise for developers and investors. Mr. Amin noted that the current process in Guyana involves multiple agencies and departments, each with its own requirements and timelines. This can lead to delays, duplication of efforts, and a lack of transparency and consistency in decision-making.

To address these challenges, the consultant presented several initiatives that the CHPA is currently implementing to simplify and streamline the planning and development approval process. These include the improvement of internal processes as well as IT solutions.

Mr. Amin also presented the implementation of a single window system in Guyana, which will further optimize the planning and development approval process. This system will allow contractors and investors to submit all their applications through a single portal, which will then be reviewed and processed by the relevant agencies and departments. This will reduce the need for multiple applications and streamline the decision-making process, leading to faster and more efficient approvals.

The GCCI is committed to working with the CHPA  to support these initiatives which ultimately aim to create a more efficient and business-friendly environment for developers and investors in Guyana.

Present at the meeting were: Mr. Kester Hutson; President, GCCI, Ms. Kathy Smith; Secretary, GCCI and Mr. Gavin Ramsoondar; Junior Vice President, GCCI and Mr. Fareed Amin; lead consultant, Single Window Planning and Development System.
