-START-
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) will continue to raise its voice and reinforce its efforts to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus for the health and safety of all citizens.
The GCCI is aware that there are members of the business community who are in violation the laws governing the management and control of the COVID-19 pandemic threatening our country. The GCCI reminds the business community of their obligation to strictly adhere to the safety guidelines set out by the Ministry of Health in combatting the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
We remind all that these guidelines include the vital practices of observing social distancing protocols, properly washing of hands and/or sanitizing, and the use of face masks appropriately, for the safety and protection of customers.
The GCCI urges strict compliance with the recently implemented 6PM to 6AM COVID-19 curfew directives set out in the Official Gazette. The GCCI will support the Guyana Police Force taking all the necessary steps to enforce the wearing of face masks in public places and the strict observation of the curfew laws.
We reiterate our support of the Ministry of Health in their efforts at enforcement of the COVID-19 protocols by the business community and for the introduction of a regime of inspection to ensure compliance.
The Georgetown Chamber is at one with the Ministry of Health on the absolute necessity of every business place, regardless of the nature of the business, strictly complying with the regulations clearly set out in the Official Gazette.
