GCCI hosts first networking event for women in business
(Guyana Chronicle) – THE Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) held its first event for women in business, and attracted a huge turnout at the Pegasus Hotel on Friday evening.
The cocktail style event was named “Connecting Women in Business”, and as the name suggests, scores of women attended, showcasing their brands, and networked with other women entrepreneurs. Given that this month is designated Breast Cancer Awareness month, most of the women were clad in pink attire, showing their support for the cause.
Chairperson, Membership Committee of GCCI, Macaela Cameron, who was also the chairperson of the event, said that even though women continue to face many societal challenges, they continue to persevere “and most of all, we continue to do so with our heads held high,” she said.
It is against that backdrop, GCCI decided to host the event, to celebrate the achievements of women in business, and to provide the opportunity for them to network with other women like themselves. This will in turn help their businesses to grow, and open doors for future opportunities to expand and develop.
Cameron said that the event was also tailored to encourage women to uplift one another. “Tonight’s room is filled with lawyers, CEO’s, doctors, entrepreneurs, marketing executives, bankers, media personalities, business leaders – women who are all trailblazers in their respective industries. Women whose accomplishments should be celebrated more frequently than not… Let’s continue to uplift one another. Let’s continue to support one another. Let’s continue to celebrate one another’s accomplishments. And let’s continue to be role models to the younger generations,” she told the attendees. Despite the event was hosted for women, the men also came out in support and celebration of the women’s accomplishments.
The attendees were entertained with performances from a violinist, and we’re treated with finger foods, wine and cocktails, as they interacted with each other.
