GCCI’s 2024 Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner recognises outstanding business and entrepreneurs
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on December 12 held its 135th Annual Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner, during which several outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs were recognised for their sterling performance and contributions. Hosted at the Guyana Marriott Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, the evening’s proceedings saw the keynote address being delivered by Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Hon. Deodat Indar. Other government officials and members of the diplomatic community were among the hundreds of attendees.

Eureka Medical Laboratories was awarded the Outstanding Green Business Member in recognition of its efforts at utilising cleaner and sustainable energy sources. Rid-O-Pes copped the Award for Innovation as a result of the integration of specialised software designed for their industry, including GPS tracking systems for fleet management, enhanced safety, and optimised routing, boosting operational efficiency and decision-making, as well as the use of automation systems. His exceptional leadership and dedication throughout his career which significantly impacted both the private sector and the development of future generations earned Mr. Shaam Outar the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Public Service Award for Excellence was presented to the Ministry of Housing and Water for its exemplary service to the Guyanese people through infrastructural development and housing solutions. SBM Offshore Guyana received the Corporate Citizenship Award in recognition of its demonstration of ethical leadership, good corporate governance, and community investment. Mrs. Gem Madhoo-Nascimento, an exceptional pioneer and leader in converting and developing amateur theatre in Guyana into a professional and commercial enterprise, received the Woman in Business Award. Mr. Geraldo Alphonso received the GCCI’s Young Business Executive Award for his exceptional leadership at Build Smart Construction and Supplies Inc., and the pioneering of Guyana’s first modern boutique hotel, the Aiden by Best Western. Guyana’s first woman-owned authorised distributor for the international Oxford Super-Blend brand, Veena’s Linen and Hotel Supplies won the Micro Business of the Year, while CV Farm received the Small Business of the Year Award for their exceptional performance across multiple areas of business excellence.
Freightlink Logistics Incorporated was awarded the Medium Business of the Year Award for its commitment to quality and operational excellence. Giftland OfficeMax was presented with the Large Business of the Year Award for its constant and consistent innovation, visionary leadership, and significant contributions to the local economy and community. For her outstanding service and support to the business community, the Chamber, and its secretariat, Ms. Natasha Waddle received the Chamber Award. The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry received the President’s Award for continual business excellence through positive business growth, superior customer service, and an outstanding commitment to quality, while the Guyana Chronicle was presented with the Media Award for outstanding media coverage of the work of the Chamber and the business community. Finally, ExxonMobil Guyana Received the President’s Local Content Award for significantly supporting local content development by engaging over 1700 local businesses and employing more than 4400 Guyanese workers through its operations.
