The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) met with the Minister of Labour, Mr. Nanda Gopaul, to discuss the National Minimum Wage Order on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. The Chamber’s delegation was headed by Mr. Clinton Urling, President of the GCCI, and included members of the Chamber’s executive and other private sector representatives. Also present at the meeting were Mr. Samuel Goolsarran of the Consultative Association of Guyanese Industries Ltd. (CAGI) and Mr. Norris Witter of the Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC).
The Chamber sought clarifications on a number of issues relating to the order, which comes into effect on July 01st, 2013.
The Ministry’s engagement with the Chamber on this issue will continue next week when the Minister is expected to meet members of the private sector at the GCCI headquarters to offer clarifications and answer questions relating to the order.
