(Stabroek News) Local Information and Communication Technology (ICT) service providers could get a key opportunity to demonstrate their goods and services to an international market when they travel to Suriname in June to participate in that country’s ICT Trade Exposition. Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) President Lance Hinds said the Chamber had decided to facilitate the visit to Suriname “as part of its overall focus on the development of ICT as a productive sector.” He had spoken briefly about the ICT event in Suriname during an interview with this newspaper a few weeks ago.

Hinds told Stabroek Business that the visit to Suriname by local ICT service providers will also facilitate “valuable exposure to and potential collaboration with similar businesses in Suriname and other parts of the Caribbean Community.”

Hinds, who is Chief Executive Officer of the ICT company Brain Street said that part of the aim of the exercise was to enable Chamber executives to “participate in seminars and panel discussions pertaining to the regional development of ICT. The seminar is also expected to address the “role of the Caribbean in the participation, management and ownership of the internet space and the human capital strategies needed to achieve the evolution and growth necessary for the full propagation of ICT in the región.”

During his earlier interview with Stabroek Business Hinds had said that part of the focus of the Chamber under his presidency would be on the development of ICT locally, to enable it to serve both as a tool for enhancing the efficiency and the profitability of businesses in the various sectors as well as to enable its own growth and development as an independent sector in the Guyana economy.
