GCCI Meets with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana

Representatives of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), led by President Mr. Clinton Urling, met with the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Guyana Dr. Jacob Opadeyi on July 08.

The Chamber shared it Competitiveness Manifesto with the VC and expressed its desire to work with the university in contributing to lowering the barriers to competitiveness that are identified in the document.

The Chamber President also reiterated the Chamber’s position that it would like to see the transformation of the University of Guyana into a well-managed, well-financed, dynamic and professional organization that is recognized as a hub for national research and development and as a center for producing a competent and qualified skilled labour force that meets the needs of our rapidly
evolving private sector.

The VC discussed some of the initiatives being pursued by the university and outlined some of the challenges it faces. He also proposed areas in which the institution can collaborate with the private sector to enhance the university.
